The Octopus Gallery is an extraordinary new exhibition space in Brighton. Specialising in original screen-printed art prints and gig posters, located close to Brighton Station, the Octopus Gallery establishes a vibrant cultural triangle between the gallery, the Phoenix Art Centre and Brighton Art School.
Rhys Wootton, a founding member of the Brighton Rock Artists Group (BRAG), has created the Octopus Gallery. The Octopus Gallery represents the culmination of Rhys' commitment to art through the medium of print. Having organised exhibitions demonstrating the beauty and depth of gig poster art it is Rhys' intention that the gallery expands on the unique aesthetic generated when fusing textual and graphical elements.
Gig posters convey more than the date and location of a concert, they are converted and collected, revered as much for their artistic beauty, as their cultural value, the roster of artists Rhys has enlisted at the gallery demonstrates he is a pivotal figure in a thriving scene, experiences such as organising the sell out show 'Rock Poster Explosion Tour' at the Basement, Brighton, in 2008, and his internship at Europe and America's biggest gig poster studios have shaped his aesthetic appreciation for the art meets science process of screen printing.
The Octopus Gallery offers Rhys' technical knowledge for hire with the Oct-Agency, a service offered by the gallery to realise the customer's creative potential in providing a screen print and design service. Through this service, and it's establishing of a cultural triangle, the Octopus Gallery aims to nurture talent and spot key trends, to adapt to fashions, to keep an ear to the ground for talent in a way no other gallery in Brighton can, it is at the heart of the cultural creative Brighton.
